BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
We are living in a world full of noise and so much chaos. But in the midst of all that God is calling us to be still and always remember that He is in control.
Today's post will show us the importance of being still and waiting on the Lord amid chaos and noises around us.
Our foundational scripture is
Psalms 46:10 (NKJV)
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
A. Be Still
The word still is a phrase that can be defined in different ways, but it all comes down to words which mean, quiet, peace, calmness, no motion, being at peace or sitting in one place.
Why It is Important to Be Still ?
I. It can help you to be focused fg2345
When you are still it is easy to focus because at that moment, you are at ease and your mind is at peace. There is already so much going on in our lives and so our minds tend to be everywhere. This makes it so hard to stay focused and pay attention to what matters.
Stillness plays a significant role when it comes to our walk with God. It is so hard to accomplish your God’s given assignments when your mind is everywhere.
A lot of people have missed the opportunity to fulfill their purpose here on earth just because they were not still and focused. It is my prayer that you will not be of them in Jesus Name.
III. You can clearly hear God
Another particularly important reason God want us to be still especially in these times and season we are living in is because He want us to clearly hear His voice.
Have you wondered sometimes, why is God not speaking to you? The question should not be if God is speaking to you, but rather do you hear God when He is speaking? Are you paying attention?
The truth is God has been and is always speaking to us, and this is where the importance if stillness comes in. You can never clearly hear God if you are not still. There are so many voices speaking to us, there is so much noise all around us.
It is in the place of quietness and stillness that you can clearly hear your Father's voice by being able to distinguish His voice from all other voices.
III. You can make right decisions
When your mind is at ease and at peace, you can make right decisions that are not only profitable to you but pleasing to God. When people make wrong decisions in their lives, most of the time they tend to say, " I did that because I was not thinking right" or I had so much going on in my mind”. This shows how thinking right goes hand in hand with being still, being at ease, being at peace.
The story of Jesus from Mark 4:35-41, is a very good example of how you can be still in the midst of life storms. The disciples who were with Jesus in the boat when the storm started got so scared and had to wake Jesus up from his sleep. The story narrates that Jesus was sleeping when all this was happening. Does it mean Jesus was not scared of the storm? Jesus was not scared; His mind was at peace because He knew his Father in heaven was in control. It was peace, stillness that made Jesus make the right decision, he stood up from His sleep and commanded the storm to cease. The storm stopped immediately.
B. Know your God
Knowing the kind of God, you are serving is one of the key factors that will help you to be still no matter how big your storm is. Just like Jesus, who did not care about the size of the storm and slept in the boat, you can do the same by focusing on the power and strength of the God you have.
Our foundational verse, “Be still, and know that I am God; ...." is a reminder to us that, there is A God in heaven who is so Mighty and Powerful. He can shake the foundations of the earth. He created heaven and earth, and nothing is too hard for Him to do. That situation you might be going through is nothing before God.
But in order to get to that level, you have to build a strong relationship with this God. You have to put in effort to not only to hear about Him, but to actually know who He is. Know his ways, know how He works. Be obedient to Him, follow His leading and He will definitely come through for you every time.
As I conclude, I want you to remember that as long as you are still here on earth, storms of life will come. You will have challenges, but these life challenges will not overtake you because God is on your our side. All you need to do is being still and know that God is in control.
NB: Let this video be a blessing to you. I pray that God will give you peace and calmness as you listen. Please share to anyone you think might need to hear this and God bless you as you do so.
