There is Still Hope

Updated: Mar 20

It might not look like it, it may not feel like it but there is still hope. As long our God is seated on the throne, He can change your situation today.

This blog post today is here to let somebody know that there is still Hope. This message of hope is an encouragement and a reminder that even at your lowest place, God still loves you and He is ready to get you out of there. It is never too late, and you are not too far gone for God to turn your situation around.

What is Hope?

In the Bible hope is portrayed as a confident expectation of God's promises regardless of our present circumstances. It is deeply rooted in the trust and faith in God's faithfulness to fulfill his promises. When you have hope, you are anticipating that whatever it is that God Has promised, He will fulfill, why!? Because that is His character, that is the nature of God, He is a faithful God He is who He says He is.

Therefore, it is important to keep this hope alive so that we can be able to stand in the day of adversity. For as long as we are here on this earth, circumstances will change, troubles will come, things will not always be the same. But if we have hope, we can still be able to stand no matter what comes our way. This hope will help us remain strong no matter what is happening around us.

God is our source of hope

The hope we are talking about today is the hope that was given to us by God Himself. God is the true source of hope, and in order to remain hopeful, you must stay connected to the source, which is God.

Romans 15:13 (NKJV)

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The verse above starts by saying “Now may the God of hope…” He is the God of hope; this is where our hope should be coming from and nowhere else.

The question I have for you today is; in the midst of trials, tribulations, troubles, and life challenges where does your hope come from? What is the source of your hope?

God is the only true source of hope. He is the only one that can take anyone out of the pit of hopelessness, no matter how deep it is. Truth be told, when we try to find our hope from other sources other than God, we find ourselves going further away than we could ever imagine.

God's hope is an anchor to our souls

Hebrews 6:19-20

19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

What does an anchor do?

The primary function of an anchor is to provide stability to the ship so that when strong waves or wind come, that ship will remain stable. No matter how strong the storm is, as long as that ship is fixed on the anchor, it will not be moved.

And so this anchor is like hope to our souls, once you have the hope, no matter how strong the wind is, no matter how big the storm is, you will remain fixed, you will not be shaken, you will not be moved, because of God's hope in you.

How do you remain hopeful?

I. Encourage yourself in the Lord

One important thing you can do whenever you feel hopeless is to encourage yourself in the Lord. This is especially important because in life, you cannot always wait for people to come pull you up whenever you are down. People may never fully understand what you are going through, the way you do. But also, these people might not always be there.

In the Bible we see a very good example of how David used to encourage himself in the Lord, whenever he found himself at his lowest. We can learn from him and practice the same in our lives.

Psalms 42:1-5

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.

2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.

The above example shows David, the man who God called "the man after my own heart," but we see this same David, so despair, so discouraged, so hopeless in this situation.

When you look at verse 3 it says

3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”

It seems to me that things were not looking good for David, he found himself in an unpleasant place where he was crying day and night.

Maybe you are in that situation right now, crying daily, and wondering if things will ever change. Maybe you are going through difficult times and people are pointing fingers at you asking, where is your God? Maybe you are about to throw in the towel, thinking it is all over. Maybe you have been praying and fasting for a long time, but it seems like your prayers are not being answered.

I am here with the good news, am here with the gospel of Jesus Christ, I am here to let you know that there is still hope, for as long as you are you are still breathing, THERE IS STILL HOPE.

In Verse 5

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.

He said to himself, why are you cast down o my soul? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.

The above verse shows us how David refused to stay in that hopeless situation. We can do the same by refusing the hopeless situations to overtake us.

II. Hope against all hope

Romans 4:18 (New Living Translation)

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

From the scripture above we can see how Abraham decided to remain hopeful even when it looked like there was no reason for him to hope. Years passed by before he physically saw the manifestation of God's promise come to pass in his life. He chose not to look at circumstances that surrounded him but rather put his hope on the One who promised.

And therefore, even in our lives, against all hope we can choose to stay hopeful.  When circumstances tell you no hope, put your eyes on God, In Him there is hope in abundance.

III. Remember God’s Faithfulness in the past

Another important thing you can do when we feel hopeless is reflecting on how faithful God Has been in the past. This can steer up your hope in God and help you stand firm in challenging times.

Here are some of the verses you can help you

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV)

“For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Remember, if God did it for you before, then He can do it again. But you have to play your part and remain hopeful.

IV. Surround yourself with the right people

It is also very important to watch your surroundings and the people you associate with whenever you feel hopeless. As hard as it can be sometimes, get the the right people close to you. People who will help you and lead you in the right direction. Stay away from anyone who will take you further away from God or making the right decisions.

A story of Job from the Bible is a vivid example how close people around can either help you or destroy your life.

Who do you talk to, where do you get your advice from, when you feel hopeless?

If the people around you are not guided and led by the Spirit of God, they can cause even more damage to your life.

Job understood the kind of God he was serving; he had a relationship with God, he has seen God working before and so he knew that all hope was not lost. Even though everyone around him told him to curse God and die. Job refused to do so, his hope was on the God He was serving, He knew his situation would change and God would take him out of his troubles eventually.

No matter what you are going through right now remember what the Bible says in the following verse;

Romans 5:5 (NIV)

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

The verse above is an assurance that if you truly hope in God, He will never allow you to be put to shame.

In conclusion, you might be depressed right now, full of worries and anxiety, thinking to yourself that your life is over. You might think that no one sees you, no one hears. I am here to assure you today that God sees you, God hears you. All you need to do is call unto Him for help and He will surely come to your rescue. You are not alone. “There is Still Hope.” As long as God woke you up this morning, as long as you are still breathing, then there is hope.

NB: This message of hope is a blessing to anyone who feels hopeless and ready to throw in the towel. This is a great reminder that God loves you and still Has a plan for your life. I pray in the Mighty Name of Jesus that as you listen God's power will flow through you and hopelessness will leave you. Please share to anyine who needs to hear this right now. And God bless you as you do so.
